    Speak at working volume. Recording stays locked until the meter leaves silence. The scale is dBFS, not raw amplitude — the band marks where a 24-bit speech take should peak. Do not chase 0 dB. 24-bit puts quantisation noise at −144 dBFS, so headroom costs you nothing and a plosive into the right-hand edge costs you the take.
